Before you click Apply for production, go through this list. Every point comes from Google's testing requirements page. Items marked (our advice) are routines we recommend, not Google rules.
Testers
- At least 12 testers are opted in to your closed test.
- They have been opted in continuously for the preceding 14 days.
- No counted tester opted out and back in with a gap. (The 14 days must be consecutive.)
- You have a buffer above 12 (our advice). See what to do when a tester drops out.
Engagement and feedback
- Testers received clear instructions and a feedback channel.
- Testers used the main features of the app. Write down which features nobody tried.
- You kept a record of the feedback, because you must summarize it in the form. Use the feedback record template.
- You can describe how feedback was collected (a form, email, a group, Play Console's Testing feedback page).
App quality and policy
Google says review is not a troubleshooting step, and it points to four common areas:
- App content and features, including monetization, follow Google Play policies.
- Target age group and content rating match your real audience.
- The app is stable: no crashes, broken functions or missing screens. Google also offers a pre-launch report to find issues early.
- If your app needs a login, you gave valid, working credentials in Play Console. See login details for Google's review.
Your answers
The form has three parts. Draft your answers in a document first. The questionnaire guide explains each question.
- About your closed test: how easy it was to recruit testers; whether testers used all features and behaved like real users; a summary of the feedback.
- About your app: a specific target audience, your value proposition, an honest install estimate.
- About your production readiness: what you changed because of the test, and how you decided the app is ready.
When you apply
- Apply on the Dashboard in Play Console.
- Do not remove testers right away (our advice).
- Expect the review to take seven days or less, sometimes longer.
